Sunday. The Sabbath. A day of rest. A day of worship. One day in seven designed for us to renew ourselves physically, mentally, and spiritually from the toils of the previous week, and to prepare our selves for the week to come.
The Sabbath is a special gift to us from a loving from God.
The Sabbath is HIS day, and he asks that we honor it.
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
“Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
“But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
“For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it” (Exodus 20: 8-11)
What are the promised blessings of Sabbath worship?
“Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the Lord.
“If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;
“Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
“And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.
“And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. …
“For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you” (Leviticus 26: 2-6, 9)
All of these promises apply to us today.
How might we go about restoring His day, the Sabbath Day, as a day of rest, a day of worship?
